BigCommerce, First North American Ecommerce Platform to Introduce Symantec Encryption Everywhere for Merchants Worldwide
BigCommerce today announced
it has partnered with Symantec (News - Alert), the world's leading cybersecurity
company, to deliver Symantec's Encryption
Everywhere solution for customers around the world. As part of the
agreement, merchants selling on the BigCommerce platform will now have
access to a suite of encryption products - including a free standard
secure socket layer (SSL) certificate - providing enhanced security,
improved shopper confidence and higher search rankings. BigCommerce is
the first North American ecommerce platform to offer standard SSL
certificates with a full-year validity period backed by one of the
industry's foremost leaders in cybersecurity. The relationship also
gives merchants the option to upgrade beyond basic encryption to
extended-validation (EV) certificates that authenticate the merchant's
identity.

"Through its support for Encryption Everywhere, BigCommerce is ensuring
its merchant base can compete effectively and provide a world-class
shopping experience that is both trsted and secure," said Roxane Divol,
EVP and GM of Website Security, Symantec. "Our desire is to not only
help secure 100 percent of websites, but also encourage best-practices
among online merchants through EV certificates that give shoppers
confidence that the merchant is who they say they are. Working with
industry leaders like BigCommerce will help us achieve these goals."
Juniper Research (News - Alert) estimates1 that the cost of data breaches
will rise to $2.1 trillion globally by 2019 - nearly four times the
estimated cost of breaches in 2015 - due to the rapid digitization of
consumers' personal information and enterprise records. As a result,
businesses selling online that do not have adequate security in place
risk financial liability, losing customer trust and lower visibility as
web browsers and search engines take proactive steps to warn and protect
customers visiting unsecure websites.
Through the agreement, BigCommerce merchants will have access to many
security features and capabilities, including a free standard SSL
certificate with 256-bit encryption, enhanced trust signals when
consumers access websites from any major browser, and the ability to
offer checkout on a custom domain on any BigCommerce plan type.
Additional security features from Symantec can also be purchased
natively through the BigCommerce control panel.
"More than 20 percent of online shopping carts are abandoned due to a
lack of consumer confidence," said Jimmy Duvall, chief product officer
for BigCommerce. "We're excited to be working with Symantec to provide
BigCommerce customers the benefit of even greater protection and the
ability to provide an end-to-end, secure shopping experience backed by
the industry's leader."
Encryption Everywhere will be rolled out to all BigCommerce customers
during Q2 2017. For more information visit: www.bigcommerce.com
